Power House Building

Part of a $64 million overhaul of the 10-acre Mill Pond Park in the Bronx, the 25,800-square-foot Power House recently earned LEED Gold certification from USGBC. The Power House originally provided support to the Bronx Terminal Market’s food refrigeration warehouse but reopened in March of 2010 as part of the overall Yankee Stadium Redevelopment Project. The $13.7 million, 2-story restored Power House now offers Mill Pond Park patrons locker room and restroom facilities, a cafe, a tennis clubhouse, and 12,500 square feet of programming space. The Power House’s green design and construction features which supported its LEED Gold application include: Over 52 percent of the green roof’s total area is covered with vegetation; 23 percent of the project’s total site area was restored with native plant species; Reduced water consumption (projected at 43 percent) from various low-flow fixtures and lavatories; 80 percent of the existing building’s wall, floor, and roof was retained; 100 percent of wood-based building materials were FSC-certified; and 23 percent of total building materials are manufactured from recycled materials.
