A social enterprise, registered charity, Fair Trade retailer, & educator - "trading fairly in Renfrewshire since 2002." The Rainbow Turtle's Paisley shop (staffed almost exclusively by a dedicated team of volunteers) offers a wide variety of fairly-traded food & drinks, along with an extensive range of ecological household products. Many of these are available to be refilled, thereby reducing waste packaging. They also stock a great range of fairly traded gifts & crafts from around the world, including cards, stationery, jewellery, & fashion accessories, clothing for adults & children, cookware, kitchenware, toys - &, last but not least, pocket-money items for children.

Located on Glasgow's Southside near Strathbungo Cross, Bawn is an 'Ethical Textile Atelier', offering textiles by the metre (or 1/2 metre!), haberdashery goods & supplies (including clothing patterns with a contemporary emphasis), books on sewing / textiles / fibre art, fabric remnants (avoiding waste that's common in the textiles industry), & in-shop events.

A wonderful completely-gluten-free bakery with a continually-changing range of sweet & savoury items - including lots of vegan options!

Situated in Milngavie just outside of Glasgow city, Gavin's Mill is a social enterprise (supporting Gavin's Mill Community Project) offering a Fairtrade & zero-waste shop, as well as a vegetarian café with vegan & gluten-free options (for more on the café, please go to the separate listing here on Glasgow Green Map - link below!) completely run by volunteers, & a series of events (everything from live music to art-making). Outdoor covered terraces to enjoy a light lunch or delicious baking.

Eco Health Store is a natural health shop that has a great selection of supplements, health foods, environmentally friendly household cleaning products, personal care products, and much more. They also have a refill station of cleaning products from Ecover and Bio-D alongside Faith in Nature’s shampoo, shower gel and body wash. You can also bring your own container to refill nearly 200 foodstuffs that they sell loose in-store to reduce plastic waste. 

Vila do Artesão is dedicated to the appreciation of the traditional Brazilian northeastern culture. The place is focused especially on local handicrafts, a form of artistic expression passed from generation to generation, that has a strong root in the history of Paraíba. Vila do Artesão is composed of 84 chalets, approximately 200 artisans and scenic spaces, replicas of Brazilian northeast symbolism, such as a Taipa House, a bodega and a Church. It also has spaces for dance and musical performances and a food court. Various cultural attractions take turns during the year, with much more intensity in June, the period of traditional São João celebration in the city.

Local food trade, with a good variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as basic everyday products. The place is made up of two points, one being the establishment on a property (pictures 1-4) and the other a tent near the highway roundabout (pictures 5-6).

Lunar Brechó is an online thrift store that deals with used, new and self-made pieces. The owner aims to encourage conscious consumption and to contribute to the growth of more sustainable fashion in the city, in addition to valuing female entrepreneurship. Unfortunately, during the covid-19 pandemic, the thrift store is only working in the delivery mode and the pieces can only be seen on social media. 

By far, one of the most surprising places in the city. On the outside, it seems to be just a suburban house, but inside it's a whole universe of plants of all kinds. The place unites the space of four residences, completely filled with plants, in a way that, unbelievably, the paths become narrow. The plants are all in great condition, providing a sight to behold, and the prices are more than fair.

Neck is an artisanal accessories brand, with all its pieces handcrafted with great care. You can purchase their necklaces and anklets from the models already available, but you can also order your own model. Since Neck is an online brand, to make purchases or check available models you can take a look at their Instagram or send them a WhatsApp message.

Food stores in Kingston share corporate environmental and other ethical policies which include: There are physical limits to the resources of the Earth so we are committed to making absolute reductions in emissions. Also sell own brand Fairtrade products.

Integral to our mission is to run the business ethically and with care with our aim to be carbon neutral. We will seek to find the most ethical and environmentally friendly methods possible and suppliers and partners that support these objectives. Our stores have also seen a jump in interest in Fairtrade products and I'm happy to say that we're stocking more Fairtrade products than ever before.

Mapping nature in an urban innner London borough.

The Greene Hill Food Co-op welcomes new members who share the work and enjoy great prices on fresh organic and local food. Serving the communities of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bed Stuy and Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, this good healthy social resource opened in 2011. Open Saturdays from 10am-2pm and Wednesdays from 6pm-10pm; store hours will expand as membership increases. Check it out! The website has recipes and co-op information.
