This Village street will become even more village-like in late 2021, as it will soon become a permanent open street, where cars are guests and slow down for people. Check out a 2019 plan for more details. Already car-free on the north end, this street brings historic buildings, college students and local residents together.

This area's open streets are a bit fragmented around Orchard Street's 'spine'. You'll see many open dining areas, too.

Orchard Street has been car-free every Sunday for decades, originally so it can become an open air bargain district. With the Pandemic, the open street was extended to 8 am to 8pm daily.

Explore the green space and cool site specific artworks, from the Battery heading North through a wonderfully laid out nature walk through Wagner, Rockefeller and Hudson River Parks, along the river's edge. Battery Park City has a sustainability plan, and several buildings have solar and other green features. Check out newer spaces like Teardrop Park, too!

A great place for active distancing, Pier 36 offers riverside refreshment and space to walk, run and bike. Access Pier 36 from Rutgers or Montgomery Street at the East River. Bonus - the south side connects to the new Eco Park at Pier 35 with excellent seating, swings and views. Just south, under the FDR Drive, there's a public gym!

14 blocks of public space, ideal for distancing on foot, by bicycle, skateboard, etc. Running from Houston Street to the East River, it's all contiguous (except the block just north of Delancey). Every block is different - some have recent plantings, seating and paths, others are in 'original condition'.
