Salish Coast Production Garden

The school established gardens in the front yard in 2019 for classroom activities, fresh vegetables, and fruit production. The produce goes to school lunches or local food banks.

Port Townsend High School Production and Culinary Garden / Food Bank Garden

This high production garden serves garden and culinary classes and the PT Food Bank during the summer months since 2012. Students have classes on multiple days. Volunteers work on Fridays 9-11.

Puur & Loos

Puur&Loos is a packaging-free grocer, enabling sustainable grocery shopping. The shop offers pure, organic, and plant-based ingredients. Customers can bring their own reusable containers to fill them with plant-based products. A smart checkout system calculates precisely how much of each item is selected. Groentetas (Educatorium)

Groentetas is a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation that aims to deliver fresh, healthy, seasonal vegetables to customers at a competitive cost on a weekly basis. They strive for affordable, healthy food for all, supporting local producers, shortening supply chains, reducing food waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and putting smiles on faces.

De Veldkeuken

De Veldkeuken offers a restaurant where the chefs cook with organic and local produce and plant-based meals are available too. The 'landgoedwinkel' contains the bakery where various breads made with organic flour are available, as well as homemade delicacies as well as those from local, sustainable producers.

De Pit

De Pit is a student volunteer-run food stall at the center of Utrecht Science Park serving affordable & plant-based meals in the Educatorium canteen. Meal offerings vary per day and are communicated through the food stall's Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/de.pit.utrecht/

Classroom Research

This is the theoretical starting point of our project. In the classroom, students learn about globalization and the food industry. They bring empty food packages from home and use a large world map with stickers to trace where each product came from. By checking the labels, they discover the hidden environmental costs of global shipping, such as air and sea pollution. This research phase prepares them for the practical step of building a local greenhouse.
