The Arbutus is a very significant native tree species for the W̱SÁNEĆ people (https://wsanec.com/history-territory/#legend). Flowers in spring attract pollinators, the berries in summer are food for birds and the canopy provides a home, shelter and shade for many.

The residents of the housing building had both individual and community gardens full of many different pollinating flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables.

Native species

Lots of plants for pollinators throughout the yard to build habitat and biodiveresity. Leave things as much as possible in the Fall and over the Winter so birds can feed and the insects that laid their eggs on plant matter or in the soil can rest undisturbed and emerge in the Spring. Yarrow, lavendar, ocean spray, rosemary, coast penstemon, cape fushia, brassicas left to flower. Lots of native bees, hummingbirds, and other insects. Looking forward to learning more about who they are and their needs! * Updated in Fall 2022 front planted as a shady native plant garden - sticky cinquefoil, small flowered alumroot, wild strawberry, lady fern, pacific bleeding-heart, red columbine, yarrow, fringe cup, and sea blush.

This location is currently home to cedars, firs and bushes.

A lovely old mature Chestnut tree, provides blossoms for pollinators in spring and shade in summer.

Medicinal, food and school community garden, chickens+ native plants hedgegrow and garry oak ecosystem.

There is the potential for a native species pollinator garden in the boulevard outside this resident's house.

This patch was identified by two community members as previously having wildflowers for pollinators. The patch (along the galloping goose trail) has since had all flowers removed and is bare. Community members identified this area as having potential to become a pollinator garden to provide habitat for pollinator species.

Flowers and various plants are planned to be in a planter in the roundabout circle.

Lots of flower bouquets. The resident sell flowers on the boulevard. Bees, wasps, hummingbird. The gardens buzzes in the summer.
