The Ochiltree Community Hub is a SCIO Charity, formed in October 2014, and has 9 local residents on its Trustee Board. The OCH was formed after East Ayrshire Council announced that they were closing the village’s community centre and library, this action leaving the rural community with no access to facilities or services in which to improve health, wellbeing and inclusion. The Hub was part of a vision of the community coming from a community engagement activity the Ochiltree and Skares Community Action plan 2017-2022, the vision of the plan, to create a vibrant, attractive, welcoming and inclusive rural community that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Using community feedback and the passion of people within the village, funds were raised to establish the new community facility that would be a well-used, high profile, multipurpose and connected community hub, an anchor for community engagement, community spirit. The new facility is a catalyst for change within the village, bringing people together to support local people, projects and overall have a positive impact on the village. Bringing together community organisations to form a sense of pride living in Ochiltree. The hub works to provide opportunities to improve physical and mental health along with reducing social isolation. The demographic of the /hub spreads from children through to the elderly with its activities.
