Scotland The Bread is a collaborative project to grow better grain and bake better bread with the common purposes of nourishment, sustainability and food sovereignty.
We research diverse, evolutionary grain varieties with above average levels of nutrients, grow them organically in the East Neuk of Fife and mill them on-farm into beautifully fine and versatile wholemeal flour.
As a Community Benefit Society, our goal is to create opportunities for everyone to get involved in establishing a Scottish flour and bread supply that is healthy, equitable, locally controlled and sustainable. We run two projects, through which we work in partnership with communities across Scotland to introduce local people to our nutritious grains and support them in developing the knowledge and skills to grow, process and bake these into delicious bread.
-
‘Soil to Slice’ encourages communities to grow, harvest, thresh, mill and bake with more nutritious grains in their local area.
-
‘Flour to the People’ (incl. The People’s Bread) focuses on increasing access to more nutritious flour and the skills to bake it into delicious bread.
