Where?

We are a constituted community group aiming to save the ponds at the end of Western Harbour, Edinburgh, from development.

These three ponds beside Lighthouse Park were formed on building plots after half-dug foundations were abandoned during the 2008 financial crash. In the 15 years since, they have become a haven for native vegetation and waterfowl including breeding swans and moorhens, and a wonderful example of 'urban rewilding'. They are a valued green space where local residents come to engage with nature.

Now, the plots in the process of being sold for housing development. This would be a great loss for the local community and for urban wildlife. As a grassroots campaign rooted in the local community, we are working to fight development and secure the long-term future of this precious blue-green space for nature and people.
