Balgavies Loch Sediment Treatment Pond

Special Site
Where?

This project: peatland, pond or wetland restoration, nature-based farming

The Rescobie and Balgavies Loch sediment treatment pond project created an 850,000-litre pond to benefit the Rescobie and Balgavies Loch Site of Special Scientific Interest. The pond slows water draining from arable fields during heavy rainfall, allowing fine sediment to settle before it reaches the lochs, helping to improve water quality and protect sensitive habitats.
