    What has happened here?

    Water temperatures reached 17.8°C, around 1°C above average. The immediate outcome was a bumper native-oyster breeding season, but it is also a warning of longer-term heat and ocean-acidification risks to shellfish health and the fishery.

    Proposed response

    The Solway Coast and Marine Project is restoring habitats including oyster reefs and seagrass to build ecological resilience.
