Lorn Organic Growers is a community gardening group based in Taynuilt, with about 25 members.
We rent six polytunnels and a netted fruit tunnel at the Barguillean estate, and have an orchard.
Members rent beds in the tunnels to grow their own organic produce, and we provide help and advice to growers,
along with composting facilities and fertilisers.
Orchard produce is shared amongst members. We have community workdays to maintain the site, and to provide opportunities for
members to socialise and to exchange plants, produce, and advice. Members are able to learn about growing produce, composting and polytunnel maintenance, and caring for fruit trees. We focus on organic growing, and encourage members to make use of locally available low impact fertilisers such as comfrey, nettle, and seaweed, and we arrange manure deliveries from local farmers. This, along with seed saving and sharing, increases the food security of our members, while lowering the environmental impact of the site.
