The villages of Cove and Kilcreggan are situated on the Rosneath peninsula which is on the north shore of the river Clyde opposite Gourock. The community was established in the 19th Century when Clyde steamers brought it within easy reach of Glasgow, 25 miles to the West. Kilcreggan still retains its Victorian pier from which a foot ferry connects it with Gourock. The combined population of the villages is 1,280 people.
