As Spring arrives, we are happy to share that our new set of Local Food Icons is complete and ready to use! Just in time for the growing season (in the northern hemisphere), there are 60 icons for local Growing, Eating, Enterprise and Specialty food sites.
We hope that a wide diversity of communities will use them to illuminate the everyday choices we make to lower our impact while increasing health, climate, biodiversity and social benefits.
Find a backgrounder here and at GreenMap.org/localfood, you will find everything you need to make a print map, experience, signage, etc. Local Food Icons are already installed on our mapping Platform. Click the titles to see that nearly every icon already has sites linked to it, somewhere in the world.
Mapmakers can mix multiple sets of icons on their interactive maps on our Platform, as seen on the FEED JeffCo Green Map made on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, and on the South West Fife Villages in Scotland, which includes the UN's SDGs.
First in Print: Check out Iceland's nation-wide edition, led by Dr. Anna Karlsdottir, who said, "Adapting icons to local geographical conditions creates dialogues between the different groups the map will impact, and the mapmakers. Designing the 2023 Iceland Regenerative Food Map involved a transdisciplinary group and a focus group mobilising practitioners concerned about environmental qualities of food."
We are looking forward to the Solutions Village Marseille, where our longtime friends at Human Impacts Institute are creating a Green Map as part of their climate and local solutions installations and community events in this French city, which is hosting a portion of the 2024 Olympics this summer.
