Climate Week 2024 was a great learning experience. The learning started with the Harbor School Marine Affair’s two-week Green Map project - mapping Governors Island’s climate vulnerabilities, its eco-system services and the SDGs.
Pictured above, this first of the school year project helped orient the incoming students to the island’s features. Their teacher, Rob Markuske, gave out printed surveys and the detailed findings were uploaded to the map, which was showcased at a Climate Week event on the island. Rob also spoke about his approach at the Smithsonian's Educating for Climate Action Summit.

The GreenThumb Harvest Fair is an annual event that celebrates the incredible food production potential of NYC’s community gardens. We tabled (with the help of Harbor School students) and talked with some of the gardeners who joined the festivities on a rainy day. Together, we got a new Green Map underway about garden resources, needs and security with more to come, including a data collection event with GreenThumb, too.
Our Director was the first speaker at the Hole in the Wall Climate Week closing ritual that ferried the East River from Corlears to Governors Island. She got to some of the 500 diverse events, including the geothermal Innerspace, Offshore Wind with RPA, Psychedelic Climate, the Climate Ed Summit, the Data Vandals, and more, great opportunities to learn, network and grow, making Climate Week inspiring and activating.
