Chimacum’s Farm to School program includes school garden programs, local sourcing and scratch cooking by School Food Services, and High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) related to food and farm economy.
GARDEN
The school garden program began with a pilot in the spring of 2019 as a way to introduce fresh food to students through planting, cultivating and tasting garden fresh food. Chimacum is currently expanding the program to include more grades and a new garden space. Students are helping to design and build a large teaching garden that will soon include vegetable beds, an all-season greenhouse, a tool shed, an herb garden, fruit trees and berry patches, bug hotels, a willow dome, a tunnel and student art.
School Garden Coordinator: Corey Chin Contact: csd49.garden@gmail.com . She works 20 hours a week year-round, spreading her time between Chimacum Creek Primary School and Chimacum Elementary School.
