My grandfather immigrated from Scotland and moved into a bungalow off the Gorge. Shortly thereafter, he acquired a job at FBM on Alpha St. One of his tasks was laborious: he shoveled coal from a "coal car" and wheel barrowed it into the store room.
Community mapping involves creating a map of a community that is told from the perspective of those who live, work, or play in the area. What places spark a special memory? Where do you feel most welcome? Where do you go to be with community? Where do you go to find peace in nature? These are just some of the prompting questions provided to participants at the community mapping events held in Cecelia Ravine in September and October of 2022. The stories collected at the events are captured here to create a map of 'Burnside Gorge Neighbourhood Gems.'
