SDG 15 - Life on Land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss is Sustainable Development Goal 15,

"Protection of forest and terrestrial ecosystems is on the rise, and forest loss has slowed. That said, other facets of terrestrial conservation continue to demand accelerated action to protect biodiversity, land productivity and genetic resources and to curtail the loss of species."

CAT is an educational charity dedicated to researching and communicating positive solutions for environmental change. We speak to government and campaigners about policies that would help create a zero carbon Britain; we train students in all aspects of sustainability; we help schoolchildren to understand the importance of action on climate change; and we give advice to householders on what they can do in their own homes.

Bla. er der ynglested for svaner, ænder og fiskehejre, og desuden kan man opleve både pindsvin, grævlinge og ildere.

Our community mapping students gathered at World Environment Day in June 2022 to display maps and ask for ideas and stories about connectivity in the Capital Region. We discussed pollinator corridors, food security, ecological connectivity and ways in which to improve these within the region. Residents contributed stories and sites that we recorded on maps.

This is a Saanich owned slice of land for underground infrastructure. Squash and other edible plants were planted on it at one time in the past. Could it become useful again for food production?

The Arbutus is a very significant native tree species for the W̱SÁNEĆ people (https://wsanec.com/history-territory/#legend). Flowers in spring attract pollinators, the berries in summer are food for birds and the canopy provides a home, shelter and shade for many.

A walk along the banks of the River Kelvin that winds through Glasgow (9.8km, from the city all the way to Milngavie!) is a beautiful experience at any time of the year. Today, it's taken for granted that the Kelvin is thriving & healthy, a Glasgow City link to nature. Yet, it is only in recent years that the river's clean-up has supported its being such a rich natural habitat & thread of calm, right in the middle of the city.

Garnethill Park is a beautifully-landscaped, partially-terraced public park in Glasgow City Centre's Garnethill area. Opened in 1991, the park has a large play area with wooden play equipment, small waterfalls running over rocks, low-bench seating for relaxing chats, & grassy areas with brick/cobblestone paths in between (please refer to accessibility note below). One of the park's beautiful features is its unusual lighting, made of square metal light-boxes created in a style similar to the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (a famous Scottish architect whose work can be found throughout Glasgow).
