Category Is Books is a Glasgow's local, independent, queer/LGBTQIA+ bookshop in the city's Southside. Everyone welcome (they're emphatic about that)! Founded & run by a couple, Category Is "hope[s] to create a space for the LGBTQIA+ community to learn about, be inspired by & share in [their] love of queer books, art, history, activism, writing & storytelling."

Located on Glasgow's Southside near Strathbungo Cross, Bawn is an 'Ethical Textile Atelier', offering textiles by the metre (or 1/2 metre!), haberdashery goods & supplies (including clothing patterns with a contemporary emphasis), books on sewing / textiles / fibre art, fabric remnants (avoiding waste that's common in the textiles industry), & in-shop events.

Small & friendly indie coffee shop serving coffee, cakes, & toasties. Vegan options available. All produce is sourced locally, supporting other small businesses, including locally-baked goods (some vegan!) & a bespoke espresso blend from The Good Coffee Cartel (based in Kinning Park, Glasgow - also listed here on the Green Map!). Beans are available to buy for home brewing in reusable, infinitely-recyclable tins, with a small discount available on refill.

Dear Green (a reference to Glasgow, which is often referred to as the 'Dear Green Place' ['glas' means 'green' / 'grey-green' in Scottish Gaelic]) is a local coffee roasters who roast specialty coffee with passion, ethics, & good vibes at the centre of all they do.

R:evolve Clothing is a unique project with the aim to reduce clothing consumption, cutdown carbon emissions and decrease landfill waste. We do this by bringing back some good old-fashioned ideas like swapping, sharing, mending and making. We work with a point based system: children's clothing is 1 point, men's and women's shirts, sweaters and trousers are 2 points and dresses and jackets are 3 points. Everyone can become a member of our shop, which gives you five free points to spend on clothes in our shop. Members can also swap the clothing they no longer wear, which gives them new points to spend in one of our three high street boutique shops.

Berwickshire Swap hold children's clothes and toy swap around the borders and east Lothian. A great way to stop clothes and items going to landfill. 

New York Harbor School students collaborate with Earth Matter, a nonprofit organization helping the public with organic collection into compost. Their goal is to reduce organic waste put into garbage by encouraging and teaching people to compost, which is precisely what happens here. Earth Matter teaches the students how to compost, and then they use that knowledge to compost for the actual school, which is why they have that big tub. It's used to grind up the organic waste and make it into compost to fertilize the plants. Over the last three years, students have diverted about 30,000 lbs of school organic waste.

The Governor's Island Harbor School farm is a small-medium sized super clean farm in front of the school and thrives with wildlife. Even though there's trash and recycling bins all over the island there is still a lot of trash around the island, however this problem can be easily solved by the community picking up any trash they see and properly sorting it.  This is very important because properly sorting materials can result in healthy soil for food to grow, and less pollution.  Organic collection is collect at the school and turned into compost.  By using food scraps and waste it can benefit the harbor farm by making nice soil for food to grow.  Additionally to help with zero waste you can re-use and recycle objects so that it doesn't go to waste! Home Basics has been supporting and encouraging reuse for over 20 years. We have outlets in Walkerburn and Hawick.

This is a terrific resource for food rescue - 20,000 meals a week from produce & ingredients were procured on their way to the compost bin. The quality & richness of the dishes served here is very high! Sustainable diet shift at all levels.

A local voluntary group raising awareness of climate change, and taking action in the  Berwick area to improve the environment. Monthly Repair Cafe - last Saturday every month.  Lots of opportunities to volunteer.

Weigh Greener CIC is a Zero Waste Refill Shop in Lauder in the Scottish Borders.   

Our Berwickshire Reuse Hub aims to complement our charity shops by helping our community to reuse larger household items that are too big to be taken by our shops! We are currently running our operations from the Bavs Office and a storage unit, supplied by Pearsons of Duns.

Over the years, we’ve helped groups in the Berwickshire area with funding applications and governance issues, allowing projects that started out as an initial idea to become a reality and fill a need in the community.
