Community Garden

Often planted on public or formerly abandoned land and run by volunteers who cultivate food, flowers and closer relationships to nature and one another. Sometimes fenced and locked or threatened by development, but generally open to all participants, raising the quality of life in the community, and improving habitat, air and soil quality at the same time. Some gardens serve a specific need such as supplying produce for local Food Banks.

Located in Port Townsend Washington, we’re surrounded by forests and farms in a rural-residential neighborhood, where people come to learn how to grow food through our CSA work-trade, edible plant sales, tours, classes, and internships (wwoofing).

Community Garden

The NBCG is around 30 years old this year and has served the surrounding community well. In a typical year, 6-8 families work together in the garden, preparing beds, planting and harvesting organic produce for their families.

Before he passed away in 2019, Brian Glaspell cultivated this garden for many years, donating the majority of the produce to the PT Food Bank, usually about 5,000 lbs per year. His wife, Jeanie, was very happy to discover the Food Bank Growers organization and host the return of the garden's ability to provide for  the food bank.
