Community Orchard

Knocknagael Ltd is a community charity looking to secure a Community Asset Transfer for the smiddy field part of the Scottish Government owned Knocknagael Bull Farm. The aim of the Knocknagael community Growing project is to develop the site into a green hub including allotments, food growing activities and an outdoor area for the benefit of the community:

Orchards have increase in communities across Scotland over the years and there is growing evidence of their importance in improving mental & physical health.

 The Walled Garden was built at the same time using lime mortar and the local Lewisian Gneiss, giving it its grey and blue colour. It holds fruit bushes and trees. 

From weeding, lawnmowing, litter picking and tree maintenance - we meet up once a month to look after the Nairn Community Orchard in the Viewfield.

Growing boxes and an orchard are great ways for the community to access local food and help reduce their food miles.
