Soundview Park is situated where the Bronx River opens into the East River.
For many years Soundview Park was a partially developed park built on a landfill. Landfill operations began in the 1920s and lasted forty years. The landfill increased the height of the shoreline up to 30 feet above the marsh elevation, decreasing public access to the water. The parks remained largely undeveloped until the 1950s, with major work in the 2010's (a Green Map was created there to collect community ideas for the revitalization). Today there are many sports and recreation sites and bicycle lanes.
