Riverbank State Park is the only park of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. It is located 69 feet above the Hudson River, built on the top of a major sewage treatment facility!
This park connects with the Hudson River Greenway, an oasis of walking and cycling paths that surrounds Manhattan. Views from this urban rooftop state-of-the-art park offers promenade views of the river, the Palisades and the George Washington Bridge. With long-term justice issues stemming from the North River wastewater plant (which treats about 125 million gallons during dry weather, and up to 340 million gallons a day when the weather is wet), the park is an example of innovative land use.
