CoWatt is a citizen cooperative that aims to empower local communities in the production of solar energy, making it accessible to all on a regional scale. The organization was setup by two associations (Alisée and Elise) and partners with five financial partner institutions and nine technical institutions.
CoWatt is a regional-scale collaborative project of several departmental-scale non-profits that were already involved in promotion and information services related to the energy transition. With a few exceptions, the organization does not actually identify and develop solar projects itself. Rather, it serves as a sort of "platform" that local associations or informal citizen groups can use to develop their own projects in their own towns.
