In July 2022, Haywards Heath Town Council were the first Town Council in Europe to endorse the Plant Based Treaty. The Treaty is an international initiative to tackle the key driver of the climate emergency - the emissions created by animal farming and the deforestation it causes. Haywards Heath Town Council wants to "promote a shift to more healthy sustainable plant-based diets and to actively reverse damage done to planetary functions, ecosystems services and biodiversity." The Plant based Treaty has been backed by 17 municipal governments worldwide, including Boynton Beach in Florida and Rosario in Argentina. Further information on The Plant based Treaty:
