The Kinlochleven Community Trust is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status and a membership body in the village of Kinlochleven in South Lochaber. Through land and facilities management, community development, education, and environmental projects the Trust aims to improve living conditions and opportunities for all in the village and ultimately, tackle inequalities that our village is experiencing (as shown on the SIMD).
Climate change and environmental practice are at the core of our latest projects such as The Pantry (community Fridge), saving food going to waste through a partnership with our local shop and hoping to extend the offer. Our community Garden is partially feeding the pantry too with fresh, locally grown produce and we're hoping to also expand that project in the coming year (pending funding).
Green Health through guided walks and cycle group (including E-Bikes available for our residents) have been great success and we're looking at renewing these projects that not only have had a great impact on connecting people with nature and their environment but also as tool to improve physical and mental health and create connection with residents of the village.
Through partnerships with local agencies, a few events such as litter picking day or clothes swap at our gala day, have been organised locally.
With a refreshed team at the KCT, very much passionate about environment, we're hoping to multiply opportunities for residents to become more resilient as well as more aware of these topics and help them achieve collectively actions towards reducing our impact on our area. We're also working with local groups such as Men Shed and Knitting club to promote reusing and recycling over consuming through mending group and repair cafe events.
