BIMS was set up in 2016 to provide a social environment where men and women of adult age can gather to work together on practical projects and to enjoy each other's company. We are a registered charity SCO48114. The majority of projects involve renovation of benches and other items for the public and local community councils within the Black Isle.
Whilst our main goal is to alleviate problems of isolation, we also have a strong recycle/ upcycle / environmental ethos and work with several local organisations including the Black Isle Repair Cafe and TBI and with the children of Avoch Primary School making things from locally harvested wood and repairing goods otherwise scheduled for the tip. We have helped set up other charitable enterprises locally like the Fortrose and Rosemarkie mobility trike service and aim to help and promote and assist our fellow Black Isle charities wherever possible.
We support the aims and objectives of H&I Climate Hub and may be able to help in many practical ways as well as learning more from climate workers active in Highland Communities. We cover the area from the A9 east to Cromarty o the Black Isle. we work from two sites- main workshop adjacent to Avoch primary School, and also in Feddanhill Wood, Fortrose where we have built a log cabin and work with the owner on forestry and public access projects.
