We cover the geographical area of Dunvegan Community Council in NW Skye. Our aims are deliberately broad, but climate change action can apply to any of them since it will have such an impact on the sustainability of our community. The Organisation’s main purpose is consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development.
Our Purposes are:
- The advancement of education.
- The advancement of community development.
- The advancement of heritage and culture.
- The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the people of Dunvegan.
We are currently trying to purchase a neglected building for community use, which will need to be renovated and we would like it to be a very efficient and environmentally friendly building. We are also about to launch a housing needs survey, and the resulting housing projects could include a combination of new builds and bringing back existing buildings and houses into the affordable housing sector. As poor housing stock plagues our area in terms of energy efficiency and fuel poverty, we want these projects to be seen through a climate lens. We think there is potentially a lot of good we could do and much we could learn through climate hub membership.
