SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

The UVic Map Shop is a community-campus initiative dedicated to collaborative place-based learning and mapping. Operated by the Department of Geography, the Map Shop's mission is to facilitate processes for community engagement, student learning, globally-relevant research, and sustainable community planning through participatory community mapping. This is achieved through engaging students, community members, Indigenous partners, and other participants both locally and globally in classroom-based and field-based courses, workshops, map-making, internship opportunities, scholarly research, publications, summits, and conference participation.

CIFAL Victoria delivers training activities and research that build on UVic's commitments to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It connects the region with the global community and supports international knowledge-sharing and partnerships, with a focus on four key themes:

Founded in 1807, the Hunternian is the oldest public museum in Scotland. The Hunternian is home to an extensive, distinguished public art collection, & one of the largest collections outside of the National Museums. From Rubens to Rembrandt, the Scottish Colourists to the Glasgow Boys, its permanent collection alone is one of the best around, recognised as a 'Collection of National Significance', & the museum is one of Scotland's most significant cultural assets.

The Wildlife Garden is one of several green spaces on the University of Glasgow Gilmorehill campus. The garden is home to frogs, squirrels, a wide variety of birds and insects, and the occasional hedgehog. This peaceful spot also features artwork by local artists Louise McVey and Agnes Jones.

Founded in 1451, University of Glasgow is the fourth-oldest in the UK & the second-oldest in Scotland, with more (architecturally) 'listed' buildings than any other university in the UK. Originally located in the High Street in Glasgow City Centre, UofG was relocated in 1870 to its current location in Glasgow's West End. At that time, the West End consisted of countryside, farms, & country-houses of Glasgow's most wealthy citizens, & adding UofG to the area was a significant part of the city's expansion, by adding the academic elite to the location's social landscape which expanded the horizon for those who might have otherwise remained in City Centre.

Located in South Glasgow in the Strathbungo area, Merry-Go-Round is a registered charity & social enterprise, supporting local families by offering..

Not solely a public library, Giffnock Library is also a Heritage Centre, & home to the Maguire Collection - a collection of oil paintings by the famous Scottish painter, John Elliot Maguire (1866–1920). The collection constitutes the core of East Renfrewshire Council's painting holdings, & was donated to East Renfrewshire Council's Heritage Service by the artist's grandson.

Housed in a Grade-B listed building that includes the most complete functioning Victorian theatre machinery, & is the second-oldest operational theatre, in the UK (more info at the Building History link below!), the building itself was opened in 1878.

Tramway is a renowned international arts venue with an interdisciplinary spirit whose mission is to enrich & inspire communities by providing ambitious, innovative, & culturally-relevant contemporary visual art & performance.

Public library located in the Gorbals area of Glasgow's Southside.

Wing Hong Elderly Group (also known as Wing Hong Centre / Wing Hong Chinese Elderly Centre) is a charity organisation, a group established with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for the Chinese elderly based in the Glasgow area & promoting equal opportunities for Chinese elders in accessing social, health, welfare, & housing services.

Adelaide's is (in their own words) "more than just a venue : we want everyone who comes into contact with us to feel honoured & welcomed [..by] the vision of Adelaide Place Baptist Church of which we are a part [..]"

Charity shop whose proceeds benefit the Oxfam organisation, offering a wide variety of secondhand books. From fiction to non-fiction to vintage books, Oxfam bookshops are famous for their amazing finds!

Cycling Scotland is the nation’s cycling organisation, a Scottish Charity working in partnership with other organisations, & with funding from Transport Scotland, to help create an environment for everyone in Scotland to cycle easily & safely.  

Located on Sauchiehall Street in the heart of Glasgow City Centre in the Garnethill neighbourhood, CCA: Centre for Contemporary Arts is Glasgow’s hub for the arts, arts events, cultural organisations, & artists.

A beautiful community garden which has been built by volunteers & is now enjoyed by local residents & visitors alike. Run by Heart of Scotstoun (HoS) Ltd. (a registered charity), the community garden is part of Heart of Scotstoun community centre which also has events & a café (link to the other Heart of Scotstoun listing here on Glasgow Green Map, below).

Also sometimes known (particularly internationally) as the 'Friends', the Quakers have a long history of ecology-in-action - in fact, eco-spirituality is a significant part of the faith itself, with peace as the focus of all it does.

Part of the University of Glasgow, in the West End of the city, the University Chapel was designed by Sir John James Burnet, with stained glass windows by Douglas Strachan, & it's one of the few locations in Scotland where marriages in both the Protestant & Catholic faiths can be celebrated.

A social enterprise, registered charity, Fair Trade retailer, & educator - "trading fairly in Renfrewshire since 2002." The Rainbow Turtle's Paisley shop (staffed almost exclusively by a dedicated team of volunteers) offers a wide variety of fairly-traded food & drinks, along with an extensive range of ecological household products. Many of these are available to be refilled, thereby reducing waste packaging. They also stock a great range of fairly traded gifts & crafts from around the world, including cards, stationery, jewellery, & fashion accessories, clothing for adults & children, cookware, kitchenware, toys - &, last but not least, pocket-money items for children.

Located just to the North of Glasgow's City Centre, Hamiltonhill Allotments (allotment garden aka garden/plot communally shared amongst plotholders), the garden is one of 32 (at time of publish, for article at link below) allotment sites across Glasgow.

Wefood er et lokalt supermarked på Nørrebrogade 58 ejet af folkekirkens nødhjælp, som bekæmper madspild og støtter mennesker i nød. En tredjedel af al mad produceret på verdensplan ender i skraldespanden. Samtidig sulter næsten 800 millioner verdenen over. Det har wefood valgt at gøre noget ved. Butikken er udelukkende drevet af frivillige, og alt overskud går til mennesker i nød.

Hotel Ottilia og de andre hoteller i Brøchners lægger vægt på økologisk drift og på at skabe socialt liv med naboer og andre københavnere ved at invitere indenfor og give rabatter på brug af hotel, bar, café og restauranter. Hotel Ottillia er indrettet i en del af det gamle Carlsberg bryggeri.
