Before he passed away in 2019, Brian Glaspell cultivated this garden for many years, donating the majority of the produce to the PT Food Bank, usually about 5,000 lbs per year. His wife, Jeanie, was very happy to discover the Food Bank Growers organization and host the return of the garden's ability to provide for  the food bank.

Far Reaches Farm is a rare plant specialty nursery in Port Townsend, Washington with thousands of plant taxa represented in our collection!  We make our extraordinary plants available to everyone in the US through our mail order nursery. The pandemic has greatly impacted our staffing levels and negatively influenced the local labor force as well. We can’t see being able to reopen for onsite shopping here anytime in the foreseeable future. Fortunately mail order has been very good. For those of you who miss walking around the gardens, members of the Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy are welcome to visit by appointment, and those picking up orders in person are welcome as well please just let us know in advance!

They raise broilers and turkeys seasonally on 5 acres of land in Port Townsend, WA. Their slower-growing, pasture-raised poultry develop rich flavors and have darker meat than the standard commercial breeds. Their  birds are raised outdoors, on pasture all the days of their lives. This reduces stress and disease, ensuring a happy life and a better product for their customers. The chickens enjoy a certified organic feed from In-Season Farm in B.C. and plenty of forage from pasture, resulting in meat that is not only tastier but packed with essential vitamins and nutrients. Compared to conventional poultry, ours have better fat quality and increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and other crucial nutrients that contribute to a healthier diet.

Natembea practices sustainable agriculture, relying on interlocking resources and minimizing off-farm inputs, with no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers applied. The farm is significant for its agricultural importance and is part of efforts to protect working farmland in the region.
