Scottish Canals is the official body that (in their own words) "look[s] after the Scottish canals, conserving them as part of our heritage, & transforming them to play a vital role in Scotland today." The offices are located on the banks of the Glasgow Canal that stretches across Glasgow City, this canal, itself, being a section of the Forth & Clyde Canal that crosses central Scotland.

Hammock Grove Crescent

Hammock Grove is a place open to the public where tourists and school children can go to relax in a cozy hammock with their friends and family.  Although, in this section of Hammock Grove, there are wooden fences put down to protect trees. Because this is a hotspot for tourists and school children, many people don't respect the work that has been done, and knock down the fences. Even just when walking by, it is easy to see all the fences that have been broken  preventing proper safety of the trees, and causing the rate of photosynthesis to decrease. By putting up these fences, the workers of Governors Island are trying to clean up and rebuild this site to reach a point where this is productive for the environment and a good spot for tourists.

This is an amazing park, planted especially to provide food for wildlife throughout the seasons. They have turned this into a native plant food forest and its one of the few places to forage in Manhattan. With the wonderful Solar One on the north end, the path south leads all the way through East River Park. Houses a 3-bin compost system for yard waste mid-park. Real riverside refreshment - however! The East Side Coastal Resilience - ESCR project is causing this garden to be distributed around the neighborhood. It will be some time before this wonderland returns to its full form.

Now in the process of relocating for the massive East Side Coast Resilience levee, this "Green Energy, Arts and Education Center" has an amazing permaculture-style native plant 'food forest'* that has food for several species, including humans. Their educational programming is terrific too!
